N'lamwai Chithambo's profile

It's an African Proverb, a Biomythography

Master of Fine Art Exhibition: It's an African Proverb, a Biomythography
It’s an African Proverb, a Biomythography is made up of three points of interest that aim to incorporate storytelling into the body of work with reference to the comic book genre. These are experiences of mental health issues from a young man’s perspective, a unique autobiographical experience unpacking the young man’s mental health struggle and African oral traditions. These three points of interest work towards presenting a meaningful narrative of a young man dealing with mental health issues and his father’s sit-down conversation with him. This narrative is drawn from N’lamwai Chithambo’s own bygone struggle with mental health issues as well as his growing relationship with his father. As such, an autobiographical approach called biomythography is employed. Coined by Audre Lorde, the term biomythography describes a combination of life experiences, writing or storytelling and myth. This form of autobiography allows Chithambo to draw from his imagination as he seeks to display the peculiarity of mental health.
